FREMONT, CA: Quadric, a Burlingame-based developer of custom-designed chip and software suite for autonomous systems, has raised $15 million in the funding round led by Denso. The automotive components manufacturer plans to integrate Quadric’s technology with its autonomous driving stack. Other VCs who participated in the funding round include Pear, Uncork Capital, Cota Capital, Trucks Venture Capital, and SV Angel.
The founder alumni of MIT and Carnegie Mellon, who previously co-founded a cryptocurrency computing company 21, concocted Quadric in 2016. The full-stack edge computing solution supports near-instantaneous decision making and shows up to 100 times latency and 90 percent reduction in power consumption during early testing.

While the details of the platform’s architecture have not been released, Quadric says that its hardware decreases AI workloads by delegating them to a customized accelerator chip, Quadric Processor. In turn, integration with the existing sensor sets is carried out in a plug-and-play fashion. The “automatic sense” enables responsiveness at the edge, especially in warehousing, construction, agricultural applications, and transportation.
The board members at Quadric, being developers themselves, have built the Quadric platform to address the existing need for real-time edge computing, which will unravel new capabilities that will speed up the development of autonomous systems. The company is taking the next step in the virtuous cycle of ideal platforms, which enable better algorithms, carving a pathway to enriched app management that, in turn, boosts innovation.
Quadric has produced technology to handle most of the applications from unified singular hardware structure and software architecture. The integrated approach has achieved exemplary latencies, which enhance the safety of the automotive advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) implementations. The investors are convinced that the company is poised to filch a substantial part of the sector. Pear VC, one of the earliest investors, believes that the company possesses the talent to improve the field of edge computing with its experienced team, that has developed and shipped sophisticated processing technology with limited startup resources. The company has gone from zero to two excellent prototypes in two years.
