Fremont, CA: Autonomous electric airplane startup Pyka raised USD 11 million in a seed funding round led by Prime Movers Lab, with participation from Y Combinator, Greycroft, Data Collective, and Bold Capital Partners. The new funding will be used towards the expansion of operations and business reach. The company is built around a human-powered spray business with an autonomous aircraft. Pyka helps overcome the challenges faced in spraying pesticides over large fields.

White in 2016, Pyka Craft is more conventional with a one-seater crop-dusting plane without a cockpit.The company's primary focus is on the payload, which can carry over 450 pounds of load and batteries. It also includes an onboard computer and sensing suite which can control the demands of automated flight. The stand out feature, which separates it from other drone manufacturers, is its ability to land and take off in a 150-foot flat land. This means it doesn't need to set out an additional runway and to squander energy to reach the target area. The flight computer designs the actual flight path and instant moment decisions. The remaining design and battery swipe out is responsible for the ground crew.
Pyka's aircraft uses less electricity than an electric car. Its plane, named Egret, can spray over 85 acres of land per hour. The autonomous aircraft is highly accurate and safe, and also uses 3D aerial mapping and optimized path planning; the planes know where the obstacles are and how to fly through them. Pyka is the only company in the word which has been approved with a sizeable autonomous aircraft.
