FREMONT, CA: The epicentre of the Australian startup ecosystem is in Melbourne, the state's capital and the city has developed into a bustling hub and launchpad for companies. An increasing number of international businesses are establishing operations in the city to benefit from initiatives the Victorian government has created to support new businesses. Many companies view the finance and investment support that these programmes provide as essential. Companies that qualify may be able to use government-backed funds like the AUD 2 billion (USD 1.4 billion) Breakthrough Victoria Fund and the AUD 60 million (USD 41.8 million) Victorian Startup Capital Fund. A wide range of industries, including health sciences, software as a service, artificial intelligence, blockchain, advanced manufacturing, the internet of things, big data, and finance, are all experiencing rapid expansion in Melbourne. The city plays a significant role in the Australian Southeast Triangle, a concentrated economic zone with an annual production of more than AUD 1.2 trillion, and contributes to 64 per cent of Australia's economic activity. Today, Melbourne ranks among the most progressive cities on the planet. The change has been recognised by startup supporters abroad. At the Investor Partner Asia Summit, Rohana Wood, the marketing manager for Accelerating Asia, stated that the early-stage accelerator and venture capital fund is looking forward to meeting with and assisting entrepreneurs in Victoria.
The University of Melbourne, Monash University, La Trobe University, Victoria University, Deakin University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, Federation University, and MCD University of Divinity are just a few of the top educational institutions in the world that have campuses in Melbourne. Through their internal accelerator and incubator programmes, these universities significantly contribute to the city's improvement as a leading global launchpad for research and product development as well as the incubation of new enterprises. Additionally, they produce one-third of the nation's graduates in important technical and commercial subjects, including management and commerce, natural and physical sciences, computer technology, engineering, and other fields. These colleges considerably strengthen the city's status as a top worldwide launchpad for research and product development as well as the incubation of new businesses through their internal accelerator and incubator programmes.
