Macrophages are adaptive and assume different functional roles as a reaction to the signals sensed in its environment, including responses that are direct to pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory.
The BioTech company, Verseau, has licensed ansiRNA delivery technology, which comprises a lipid nanoparticle. It is utilized as a mode of transport for Verseau's all human translational system to find and validate the novel macrophage targets. This process creates an expansive pipeline of macrophage checkpoint modulators. The lead program, which targets the PSGL-1, reprograms the macrophages into a pro-inflammatory state, activates the T-cells, and attracts several other immune cells to generate a co-ordinated and strong anti-tumor response.
The immunotherapies at present only provide a clinical advantage among 25 percent of the cancers related to T-cell infiltration. By targeting the macrophages that occur in 75 percent of the human tumors, the massive potential of clinical benefits in immunotherapy can be offered to underserved patient populations.
Macrophage modulation, singularly or in combination with other therapies, can enable enhanced benefits and reactions for patients. By considering myeloid cells as a pathway to widen the therapeutic horizons of immunotherapy, Verseau is positioned on the top of the pyramid for creating an impact on this field.
Verseau and 3SBio are also strategically collaborating under the agreement stating that 3SBio will obtain an exclusive license to build and commercialize a selected number of MCM antibodies for human oncology indications in the parts of Greater China. But Verseau retains its global rights.
