With the amount raised in the funding, Lilac plans to expand its engineering team, scale up production of its unique ion exchange beads
Fremont, CA: Lilac Solutions, a lithium extraction technology, and services company has raised $20 million in Series A round of financing. The round of funding was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, which is a $1 billion fund established by the world's top business leader to support companies with the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Other investors who participated in the funding were The Engine, The Grantham Foundation, and Lowercarbon Capital.
"The Lilac team couldn't be more excited to have this spectacular group of investors support us and our vision to modernize lithium production," said Dave Snydacker, founder and CEO of Lilac. "With Lilac unlocking significant new supplies of lithium, battery manufacturers are poised for decades of growth as the world transitions to electric vehicles and renewable power."

Lithium has emerged as a critical resource for the new energy economy as the global transportation market shifts to electric vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries. The demand for lithium is rising at an exceptional rate, with the global market for lithium expected to multiply 30 times over the coming decades. The conventional processes through which lithium is extracted today are expensive, inefficient, and cannot deliver the rising volumes needed for electric vehicles in the future.
To overcome the above-mentioned issues, Lilac is commercializing a new ion technology for lithium extraction. The process is significantly faster, cheaper, and more scalable than existing technology. The rising demand for lithium needed for electric vehicles can be met using this technology.
The funding came at a crucial time when Lilac has its projects under development across the United States. With the amount raised in the funding, Lilac plans to expand its engineering team, scale up production of its unique ion exchange beads, and deploy the Lilac technology around the world.
"We are thrilled to support Lilac Solutions in their next phase of development to bring their technology to bear, enabling the expansion of global lithium markets and playing a key role in the transition to a decarbonized future through electrification," said Katie Rae, CEO and managing partner of The Engine.
