FREMONT, CA: Enterprise Ireland, University College Dublin (UCD), and the French Embassy in Ireland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a new International Technical Expert (ETI) position dedicated to developing collaborations in applied research and innovation between France and Ireland.
The ETI will collaborate with numerous stakeholders in France and Ireland to foster greater cooperation and understanding in the areas of applied research and innovation, building on the strong foundation of academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. The ETI will also collaborate closely with Enterprise Ireland's Research & Innovation Department, which also serves as the network's National Contact Point coordinator for the Horizon Europe Programme. Additionally, the ETI will gain a thorough awareness of the research and innovation environments in both France and Ireland to pinpoint strategic priorities shared by both countries.
The position highlights the special link between our two nations as France is now Ireland's closest EU neighbour. Research & Innovation is one of the most vibrant areas of Franco-Irish ties. This collaboration between Enterprise Ireland and UCD is very creative since it bridges the gap between government, science, and industry. The agreement is one of many landmarks we have reached in the France-Ireland joint plan of action, which was signed during the President's visit to Dublin in August 2021. Having one of these posts in Ireland is a major accomplishment considering that there are only six of its sort in the entire world.
UCD is cooperating with the Embassy of France in Ireland and Enterprise Ireland to strengthen innovatively applied research linkages between Ireland and France, and to be hosting the international technical expert at NovaUCD. They look forward to cooperating with the international technical expert through NovaUCD and the Enterprise Ireland team to enhance ties between the French and Irish start-up, innovation, and applied research ecosystems. By leveraging existing partnerships, and building new collaborations, they aim to increase the attractiveness of both countries to the strategic innovation and research opportunities they will create in the coming years.
Enterprise Ireland is delighted to be a significant partner in this new initiative that will expand the research and innovation ties between Ireland and France. The enterprise and job-creation potential of cutting-edge research and innovation, as well as its role in addressing important global concerns like decarbonization, are highly valued in both France and Ireland. They anticipate that this new project will develop new synergies between the research and innovation communities in both nations.
