FREMONT, CA: During the covid-19 pandemic, most industries around the world were thrown into a tailspin, yet startup ecosystems in Southeast Asia somehow managed to thrive amidst the challenges. One of the most innovative and emerging startup ecosystems is Indonesia, which received the lion's share of funds raised in 2020 in the region, precisely around USD 2.7 billion. In the country, the constant support from the government and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has reinforced the growth of its startup community, encouraging entrepreneurs to pursue their ideas and educational platforms to accelerate digital financial literacy. Indonesia is gradually becoming one of the most promising countries to invest in. To keep up with the momentum, the Indonesian government is offering support and incentives to foreign investors.
The Indonesian government promoted a growing ecosystem with Gerakan Nasional 100 Startup Digital (1000 Digital Start-up National Initiative) and formulated investor-friendly policies to exempt foreign investment from minimum investment requirements. This new initiative will allow venture capitalists to enjoy favorable workforce regulations, such as tax cuts. Owing to its growing startup and consumer community, Indonesia opens gates for investors to access not only Southeast Asia but also other markets of the Asia Pacific region. Hence businesses can generate a higher return on investment.
