FREMONT, CA: Commended for its innovative spirit and dynamic energy, the Dutch startup landscape currently stands at a pivotal crossroads about diversity and inclusion (D&I). While commendable progress has been made, significant disparities persist, impacting moral imperatives and also innovation—undoubtedly the cornerstone of corporate success.
The current data presents a nuanced perspective on diversity and inclusion (D&I) within the Dutch startup ecosystem. While the Dutch Startup Association's research highlights commendable initiatives such as the DNNL Launchpad, specifically designed to support underrepresented founders, the findings from the Dutch D&I in Digital Benchmark 2023 underscore a challenging reality. Notably, the representation of women in tech roles experienced a marginal decline, dropping from 38 percent in 2022 to 37 percent in 2023. Moreover, the benchmark reveals a concerning lack of integration of D&I objectives or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) into the core strategies of organizations, as only 25 percent of managers have established such metrics. Additionally, the persistence of funding disparities is evident, with a mere 5.7 percent of venture capital investments directed towards teams led by female founders.
