Fremont, CA: The auto insurance startup found by Esurance Alumni started selling insurance policies in Ohio. The startup follows a business model which is similar to that of Root Inc. It is the third state for the San Francisco-based Noblr Inc. that sold its first policy in Colorado and Texas in June and October respectively.
"We have very intentionally chosen Ohio as our next destination based on our target market," said Ray Elias, Noblr chief marketing officer, via email. "We have a strategic roadmap for launching in new states which is largely based on where we believe consumers are most likely to understand and embrace Noblr's unique product."

Both Root and Noblr are selling their digital insurance to the customer, thereby using their software apps to measure driving behavior. Both the companies said that good drivers could save more compare to the traditional plans; also their collective movements must lead to safer roads.
"With such a positive response to our product and service, we recognize that we have inspired a fundamental change in the industry and that others would follow," a Root spokesman said via email. "We look forward to continued growth."
Columbus-based Root creates its software solutions and algorithms for monitoring the drivers. However, Noble uses the technology from TrueMotion Inc., a Boston based company that develops safe driving apps for the legacy insurers, which includes Progressive Corp. and Nationwide.
"Noblr is actually offering what we call smart car insurance, which might be best compared to other smart tech products across other categories, such as Nest or Fitbit," he said. "(Also,) our business model is inherently member-focused, prioritizing an equitable relationship and an alignment of interests."
