FREMONT, CA: Alexion Pharmaceuticals has raised a green flag for the acquisition of the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Achillion Pharmaceuticals for a value of approximately $930 million.

The company is working on two clinical-stage medicines that are under development, including danicopan in phase 2 study and ACH-5228 in phase 1 of the study.
A breakthrough therapy designation for danicopan along with a C5 monoclonal antibody is achieved by Achillion, to treat patients of PNH who are suboptimal responders to a C% inhibitor alone. It intends to collaborate with major players in the field such as healthcare professionals, patients, regulators, and payors to accelerate the investigational product candidates in the third phase of clinical trials and releasing it to the market.
Alexion CEO Dr.Ludwig Hantson believes that the company has demonstrated the transformative impact that shows inhibiting C5 will have drastic effects on multiple rare and devastating diseases. He is also pointing out that this is just the beginning of possibilities with complement inhibition.
The special payments comprise $1.00 per share for the US FDA approval of danicopan and $1.00 per share for the launch of ACH-5228 phase 3 trial. The deal is projected to be executed in the first half of 2020.
