Athira Pharma, Inc., as a clinical-stage enterprise, is into developing the highest quality therapy for critical illness including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. NDX-1017 is a lead therapeutic candidate by the firm and its clinical trial preliminary data were presented at the AAIC (The Alzheimer’s Association International Conference 2019) in California.
Fremont, CA: NDX-1017 by Athira Pharma, Inc. is the tiny molecule therapeutics precisely defined for enhancing the activity of both the HGF (Hepatocyte Growth Factor), and MET, its receptor.
The HGF was primarily discovered and molecularly cloned as a powerful mitogen for the initial hepatocytes. HGF portrays several biological effects, in antiapoptotic, mitogenic, morphogenic, or motogenic activities throughout the body by binding to the MET receptor.

HGF regulates the survival and proliferation of a variety of cells. Both the HGF and the corresponding receptor are present in brain cells as well, which is why HGF assumes significance in Alzheimer’s disease.
NDX-1017 has a novel approach towards Alzheimer’s. Contrary to several other drugs that are being employed or are approved in the treatment of such diseases, NDX comes with a regenerative potential and is custom-made to slow, stop or reverse the effect of Alzheimer’s as opposed to what some of the drugs do, alleviate or eliminate symptoms.

Several non-human and preclinical studies using the NDX-1017 have proved the capability of the former in promoting neuroregeneration and further enhance cognitive functions. Despite its focus on Alzheimer’s disease, NDX-1017 is made in such a way that it can tackle a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases.
The initial trial results of NDX-1017 were recently presented at the AAIC Conference 2019. The placebo-controlled, randomized trial was carried out on NDX-1017 in diverse study cohorts. The Phase 1a and 1b aspects of the trial run were carried out on 72 healthy adults and aged people. NDX-1017 was declared secure and was well-tolerated at different dose levels.
Also, it was proven that NDX could penetrate the blood-brain hurdles to effectively get integrated with its target in different doses.
