Blockchain technology is developing very fast and powerful in the world. Covering different areas, from finance to agriculture, especially in areas related to information verification such as commodities traceability. The feasibility of this technology has been proven through applications around the world and in Vietnam as well.
Consumers are now increasingly interested in transparency about product origin. Especially many countries and regions have developed a legal framework for traceability. In Vietnam, deploying traceability of agricultural chains, many provinces have developed plans to implement electronic "QR-Code" for agricultural products. However, the traceability of agricultural products has many limitations: incomplete disclosure information throughout the chain; not cross-checking information and connecting information between agents; no common identification system for products, agents and production areas; information is not transparent and confirmed. Currently, most procedures for managing traceability are done through paperwork or stored on a centralized in one data server. This leads to a risk that the information will be centralized on a central system; therefore, there is a high risk of easily changing information or tracing the source to the value chain. The stages of participating in the traceability of products lead to the failure to know the true origin and the time to implement the stages of the product when it reaches consumers.
In line with its pioneering position in technology research and development, Vietnam Blockchain Corporation (VBC) introduced the first pilot blockchain application in Vietnam. This application is named Agridential. This blockchain-based traceability solution is implementing on Vietnam agricultural products, in which the first pilot is on the mangoes of My Xuong Mangoes Cooperative (Dong Thap Province). This is a proof of the feasibility of Blockchain technology and the actual product create more opportunities for Blockchain technology in Vietnam Agriculture.
Agridential Application
Agridential provide consumers a simple method to check the information by scanning the QR (Quick Response) code printed on the stamp of the mango. QR codes will respond and convey information to consumers in a quick, convenient and free way. Each stamp will represent a mango. Through each stage (harvesting, processing, packaging...), each mango is updated with corresponding information. This information includes the name of different parties involved, harvest standards, time and logistic transportation information. All are recorded in the Blockchain system.
This data is stored in the same Blockchain note in the system. If there is anybody wants to change a historical transaction, the change must be agreed by a large number of participants in the chain. Thus, changing information is almost impossible. Thanks to this irreplaceable advantage, the information on the Blockchain technology will become a credible reconciliation and users can rely on it to verify and protect their rights when an incident occurs.
Agridential solution also provides a set of software for mobile phones (Android & IOS), websites and Blockchain Enterprise core system connecting units to participate in the product traceability process according to GS1 Global Standard, allowing access to information by value chain, from production process to consumption, to help farmers, cooperatives, consumers and markets access transparent information about products, help increase consumer confidence and product's values.
Besides agricultural cooperatives such as My Xuong mango, VBC also piloted on many enterprises and production units with other products such as: Organic turmeric powder - Biophap - in Gia Lai, Mayaca coffee - in Da Nang, Buoi Nam Roi - in Ben Tre, Black Garlic Linh Dan, Na Ni honey, Da Lat clean vegetables, Ngoc Linh Ginseng wine and about 10 products are being piloted in the provinces in the country.

At the first stage, VBC is providing blockchain-based traceability solutions for small and medium agricultural enterprises in Vietnam with the aim to support them experience and understand the effectiveness of the solutions as well as to enhance the brand image and product quality. The application provides the blockchain traceability service and implements solutions from micro businesses to SMEs and large producers of agricultural and fishery both in Vietnam and globally.
