Israel Health Ministry has launched a plan for the set up of R&D infrastructure in order to promote innovative public health services.
FREMONT CA: Israel’s 19 programs for a new digital health initiative will enable health organizations like HMOs, hospitals, and institutes to construct the digital infrastructure needed for unacknowledged data sharing and R&D collaborations with healthcare startups.
Participating health organizations were entrusted with emerging proposals to establish or expand dedicated units that will foster close collaboration projects with the health tech industry and allow companies and research centers to access a wealth of medical data for insights, analysis, validation, and trials.
The overall NIS 100 million (approximately $30 million) three-year initiative is funded by the National Digital Health Plan, which is currently overseen by the Economy Ministry, as well as the Health Ministry and the Israel Innovation Authority. The Israel Innovation Authority also stated that this program will considerably expand the range and quality of partnerships with companies and startups while meeting the needs of innovative research and development in this field.
Israel needs to create effective partnerships at competitive costs to counterbalance advanced innovative health services in the Israeli health system and allow for the development of the industry in Israel. Explaining further he claims that the existing databases in the health system are among the best in the world in connection with range, and making them available to the industry would enable Israeli innovation in the field of health tech to break through. The Israeli government approved a NIS one billion National Digital Health initiative in 2018 to establish a digital database of these medical files and make them available to researchers and businesses, touting this asset.
The goal of the digital health program is to create an international standard for sharing medical data like SEER [a US program that provides cancer statistics] and for building APIs [application programming interfaces, software that allows devices and programs to communicate] that will allow health organizations to work with the data. Companies will be able to obtain data from a variety of HMOs and other sources using the same format.
The overarching objective is to improve healthcare, develop health-system solutions, and promote public health. In the life sciences sector, Israel has about 1,500 enterprises, which are split into four primary subsectors: digital health, medical devices, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical therapies.
