| | November 2019 6EDITOR'S DESKIn 1974, when David E.H. Jones, a British scientist first presented his paper on 3D printing to the New Scientist, little did he know that a few years down the line, Chuck Hull, a US-born innovator and inventor would make it a practical mechanism by designing and printing a small cup. Presently, the digital product making technique also known as additive manufacturing has found its place in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors with many real-world applications. The products can range from prosthetics to specialized parts for advanced as well as small machinery used in medical institutions and manufacturing units. Other forms of 3D printing include replication of objects such as art and jewelry without the need for molding processes. Additive manufacturing, over the last decade, has created a storm across the technology arena, and many big players from the sector seeking to tap into 3D printing have proposed plans to develop easy to use printers for common household utilization. Not to be left out, startups, however, are creating a diverse array of modern applications to support manufacturers without extensive inventories to build products in faster timeframes and at lesser costs. Bearing this in mind, the editorial team at StartupCity has worked alongside industry veterans to compile a list of the most promising startups delivering equipment and material for 3D printing. The magazine features "Markforged," that offers Metal X--an end-to-end metal 3D printing system alongside other series of carbon 3D printers tailored for industrial and small-scale usage. In addition, the list also includes "Mezmeriz," which develops novel MIMS/LiDAR tools for 3D mapping, reality modeling, object tracking, and classification, and "R3 Printing," a startup that offers cutting-edge 3D printing hardware and cloud-based management software for an affordable 3D-printed future.Let us know your thoughts! The Future of Product ManufacturingKenneth Thomas Managing Editoreditor@startupcity.comCopyright © 2019 SiliconMedia, Inc.
