UrbanClap Rustles-Up $10 Million Funding

Bangalore: Gurgaon-based mobile service marketplace, Urban Clap, raises $10 million from SAIF and Accel Partners. The company plans to utilize the funds to improve their technology, increase their workforce from 50 to 250 and also expand to at least 15 new cities this year. Earlier this year, the company had raised a seed fund of Rs.10 crore from SAIF Partners, Accel Partners and the founders of Snapdeal - Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal.

Founded in 2014 by Varun Khaitan, Raghav Chandra and Abhiraj Bhal, UrbanClap helps the users to find right service professionals for the needs of the users. Right from decorating homes, taking pictures at a wedding or getting the doorbell repaired to planning someone’s birthday party, UrbanClap is the perfect destination for all the service needs. It is currently available only to the users in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi-NCR who can avail the services through the Android app. Payments for these services can be made through Paytm. According to UrbanClap, it does deep pocket research on the backgrounds and police verification of the professionals on their website. Currently, the company claims to have over 6,000 registered sellers and 60,000 app downloads in the last two months.

The company envisions using technology and smart processes to restructure the highly unorganized services market in India and emerging markets. UrbanClap aspires to make hiring a service professional as easy and simple as e-Commerce companies have made buying the products.
