To Build Strong Connect with Travelers' Communities, ixigo Acquires IndianBackpacker.com

Bengaluru: ixigo, India’s leading mobile-based travel search platform, announces the successful acquisition of New Delhi-based budget traveler’s community - IndianBackpacker.com. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed. However, post this deal, Akshay Chhugani, Founder & CEO, IndianBackpacker will join ixigo as the head of its new segment on traveler communities.

Excited about the new acquisition, Aloke Bajpai, Co-Founder & CEO, ixigo says, “As a part of ixigo’s vision of simplifying the lives of Indian travelers, we want to build a strong connect with communities of travelers who possess a shared passion, purpose or taste. At ixigo, he will be responsible to build and nurture curated communities of travelers across interest areas. We look forward to building an authentic Indian traveler community and curate deep knowledge of offbeat destinations and niche travel experiences”.

Founded in 2007 by former Amadeus SAS employees – Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, ixigo is India’s leading travel search marketplace, connecting over 60 million travelers with deals from over 25,000 online & offline travel & hospitality businesses. It aggregates and compares real-time travel information regarding the prices & availability for flights, trains, buses, cabs, hotels, packages & destinations. ixigo aims to provide relevant travel services to its next 300 million smartphone users and has recently introduced the budget hotels, packages & cabs feature. It plans to utilize this investment for building its product and technology team by hiring new talent and also to add 25,000 small and medium-sized travel service providers to its portal, making ixigo the most comprehensive platform for comparing and buying travel services through the mobile phones.

IndianBackpacker.com, owned and operated by Desi Backpacking Travelers Pvt. Ltd., is the contrivance of two MBA graduates – Akshay Chhugani and Manu Mehta who founded the company in 2008. The company allows the Indian and foreign travelers to share their experience and photos of their trips in India. The company website also provides necessary information regarding the backpacking locations and the ways to get to that location.
