Gurgaon Based Zomato Acquires NexTable for Online Table Reservations

Bangalore: Gurgaon based online restaurant search app, Zomato acquires U.S. based online restaurant reservation and table management platform, NexTable for an undisclosed amount to expand its business operations and to add a new business to its menu. To reflect the new ownership, the platform will soon be rebranded as Zomato Book.

Incorporated in 2011 by TC DeSilva, NexTable allows users to make online table reservations including table management and marketing solutions for restaurants through iPad, Smartphone and tablets to manage a high volume walk in diners and administer call lists. The firm has a technology that allows restaurateurs to update their data on the platform and it also captures behavioral information such as frequency of visits, number in party, turnover times, birthday and many others.

Talking about the new advancement, TC DeSilva, Founder and CEO, NexTable, says, “Zomato solves the problem of scaling the team and scaling a product for us, and we are excited to partner with them to realize the true potential of what we have built”.

Echoing in the similar veins, Zomato's Co-founder and COO, Pankaj Chaddah says, “We want to own the communication layer between restaurants and customers. NexTable will add to this layer by bringing in the convenience of easy, online reservations for thousands of restaurants to our millions of users”.

In the past nine months, Zomato has made nine acquisitions. The company aims moving beyond its restaurant search and discovery with the acquisition of MaplePOS (Zomato Base) and NexTable. These acquisitions add a new facet to Zomato that allows it to offer table management, point of sale solutions and reservation system services to restaurant businesses. It is currently competing with Food ordering and delivery business, FoodPanda, Tiny Owl and many others.

With the acquisition of Urbanspoon last year for $52 million, Zomoto marked its entry into the U.S., Canada and Australia.
