Freecharge Forays into Utility Bill Payment Space; Launches Electricity Bill Payment Feature

Bengaluru: Freecharge, India’s leading online recharge platform, adds another jewel to its crown, as it enters the online utility bill payment sector by launching electricity bill payment facility on its website. This new facility will empower the users to pay their electricity bills within few clicks, cutting out the pain of standing in long queues to pay their bills. The company also allows a wide range of payment options such as credit cards, debit cards, internet banking or ATM/cash card and is planning to add more e-payment facilities to its portal.

Speaking about their new offering, Kunal Shah, Co-Founder & CEO, Freecharge, says, “Our aim is to revolutionize the online payment space and bring in the behavioral change of organizing and digitizing payments in the country. We are glad, we were the earlier ones to understand the importance of convenience and incentives to bring about the change. We intend to contribute to increase in online bill payments to a much significant number thereby supporting the Digital India vision of the government”.

As a part of this new offering, the company has associated with eight major electricity boards, covering almost all major metros in India and is planning to increase this number to 30 in the next four weeks. Consumers across various districts can pay their electricity bill using their customer account number.  For the first time users, the website automatically fetches their due bills instantly, allowing them to register and pay their bills automatically. Whenever the next bill is generated, a reminder is sent to the users.

Freecharge will also provide an instant confirmation of bill payment and follow up with the biller, ensuring that the payment process is effortless and hassle-free. The company is PCI DSS compliant and the payments made through the platform are 100 percent secure.
