Bengaluru: Amit Singhal, the former Head of Google Search, joins Paytm’s Board of Directors. This move will help Paytm to upgrade its financial and technology management in delivering products.
Amit joined Google in 2000 as one of the earliest team members. Working 15 years with Google, Amit spent his time in building its core search, and rewrote the search algorithms written by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
“I have always admired Paytm for its innovative payment products and vision for financial inclusion. I’m delighted to be joining their board. I have a lot of respect for Vijay and his team, and look forward to working with them,” says Amit.
Amit will be 11th member on board with One97 communications, which is India’s leading mobile internet company that runs Paytm. He will be joining Paytm as an additional director on the board. Other board members include, Ratan Tata, Tata Sons’ Chairman Emeritus, WhatsApp's Business Guy Neeraj Arora, Saif Partners’ Directors Vivek Mathur and Ravi Adusumalli, and Jing Xiandong representing Alibaba.

Paytm was founded in 2010 by Vijay. At present, Paytm is India’s largest mobile commerce platform. The company has over 100 Million registered users and processes more than 60 Million orders per month. “We strive to maintain an open culture where everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions. Our team spends hours designing each new feature and obsesses about the smallest of details,” adds Vijay.
