Bangalore: California based Docker infrastructure software developer Rancher Labs raises $10 million in series A round of funding from Nexus Venture Partners and Mayfield Fund. The company expects to deploy the fund in order to develop products and upgrade company’s engineering and development teams.
Founded in 2014 by Sheng Liang, Will Chan, Darren Shepherd, Shannon Williams, Rancher Labs was started with an aims to build up the next generation of cloud software. It provides a complete platform for developers who are managing Docker in production. The company also develops innovative solutions for container infrastructure, including networking, balancing, monitoring and storage, designed specifically for containers. Today, its open source software allows organizations to run containers in production, across any cloud.
Along with an ongoing effort, the company is expanding its reach by building up open source software products called RancherOS - a minimal Linux distribution designed specifically for running Docker as the firm believes that combining Rancher and RancherOS can result in a uniquely capable production platform. However, Rancher and RancherOS are not tightly coupled as Rancher can handle Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS, or CoreOS as well as it can manage RancherOS. On the other hand, the startup claims to upgrade its employs from 20 to 30 by the end of the year.
