Bengaluru: Universal Sportsbiz, the Bengaluru based celebrity fashion and memorabilia company raises $7.5 million in Series B round from Accel Partners. The company will utilize the funds to expand the distribution network of its two new fashion brands Wrogn (Virat Kohli) and Imara (Shraddha Kapoor). Previously, the company had received an initial investment of Rs.17.25 crore from Accel Partners in 2012. Thus, through the latest round, the overall value of the company will raise to around Rs.225 crore.
Founded in 2012 by Anjana Reddy, Universal Sportsbiz creates opportunities to the fans to own a memorabilia personally autographed by their icons, and helps the celebrities with extending their brand connects beyond endorsements. It is India’s first celebrity-commerce company. Besides, Wrogn and Imara, the company's portfolio of leading brands also include Collectabillia, which provides sports and entertainment-based fashion accessories.
Universal Sportsbiz currently has 15-20 celebrities in its portfolio, both from the sports and entertainment segments and works with sports icons such as Vishwanathan Anand, Vivian Richards, Harbhajan Singh, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal. It is also planning to add 10 more celebrities from entertainment space.
